Pres. Biden announces new “Uniting for Ukraine” program for entry of 100,000 Ukrainians to U.S.

On April 21, 2022, President Biden announced a new “Humanitarian Parole Program” that will facilitate the entry of up to 100,000 Ukrainians. Eligible Ukrainians must have been living in Ukraine as of Feb. 11, 2022, have a sponsor in the U.S, and meet vaccination and security requirements. According to DHS and NSC officials, they are working with “outside organizations” to facilitate matching sponsors with Ukrainian nationals who do not have any U.S. ties. One major policy note – DHS made clear that Ukrainians should not travel to Mexico to pursue entry into the United States without a valid visa or pre-authorization to enter because those seeking entry in this manner will be “denied entry and referred to apply” through the Uniting for Ukraine program.

The official press release can be found here. Stay tuned for updated information as DHS rolls out this new program!
